Tips!
Before Installing: Quit all applications that are running because they might interfere with installation. Easy way: Log out. When you log in, hold down the Shift key to disable all startup items including the hidden ones.Some users have found the need to apply the Apple combo updater to fix problems at the base level before or after updating.
Updates do not include an uninstall feature. To restore your application to its original state, delete it from your hard disk, reinstall Office from your original installation disk, and then install ALL updates.
Tip: Archive (zip) your Office folder prior to updating so you can easily revert to the archive copy if needed.
Do not update while traveling unless you have a backup or access to install DVD.
Do not rename the Microsoft Office for Mac folder or move it out of Applications.
Do not move the Microsoft User Data Fodler or any of it's subfolders out of Documents. Your Identity is located in this folder and Entourage/Outlook will create a new blank Identity if it's moved.
If you do a re-install of Office you must update fully or your previous Identity will not open.
How to update:
If you have downloaded the updater from Microsoft Downloads- Download Updater
- Log out of your User under the Apple in the Menu bar.
- Hold down the Shift key when logging in. This disables all login items including the hidden ones.
- Select the updater and install.
- RESTART
- Open any Office application and select "Check for Updates" under Help in the Menu bar.
- Once MAU is launched, select "Keep in Dock" Log out/in as described above.
- Select the MAU in the Dock and download the updater.
- After update downloads, quit the MAU then install.
- RESTART

- Original DVDs of Office come with the installed version 12.0.0.
- Install 12.1.0 SP1 This is a major update that includes almost 50 improvements to Entourage. This is a combo updater.
- Install 12.3.2 Requires Microsoft Office 2008 Mac Service Pack 1 (12.1.0) be installed. This update includes all the improvements that were released in all previous Office 2008 updates since 12.1.0. (this will update Entourage EWS to v 13.1.2 only if EWS is already installed)
- Newer shipping DVDs will install 12.1.0 (SP1) or 12.2.0 (SP2)

Note: Office 2004 & Office X do not run under Lion. Please verify your Entourage data before upgrding to Lion. Entourge 2008 and Outlook 2011 will import your Entourge 2004 data but if it's corrupt, it will not import. Export as .rge or .mbox file as backup before upgrading to Lion. Neither will import Entourage X data.
